Continuous Filament Polyester threads are twisted into a variety of constructions to produce a variety of sewing thread products. These include monofilament, filament, and textured threads.
These products are typically less expensive than other thread constructions of the same size. They are ideal for overedge, chainstitch and coverstitch operations offering soft seams with good elasticity and coverage.
High Tenacity
High tenacity threads are used to sew a variety of products. These include: filters, air bags, seat belts, automotive interiors, suitcases, lift slings, leather footwear, outdoor goods and sports equipment, and mattresses.
Continuous Filament Polyester thread is manufactured by spinning high tenacity staple fibers into a yarn, then plying them to make the thread. The finished product is typically sized using the denier system.
A&E manufactures thread in five different thread constructions: twisted multifilament, monocord, textured, air entangled and monofilament. These threads are available in multiple plys and can be purchased with or without a lubricant.
In order for a thread to perform properly at the sewing machine it needs to be well lubricated with a low friction finish that allows the needle to glide over the fabric. This lubrication is a critical part of the manufacturing process, and it helps to keep the needle in contact with the fabric for optimal stitching performance.
Abrasion Resistant
Abrasion resistance is a significant factor in the selection of thread for heavy-duty sewing applications. Physical characteristics that affect abrasion resistance include tenacity, loop strength, linear strength, elongation, elastic recovery, twist construction, ply security, shrinkage, stitch appearance, colorfastness, and chemical and heat resistance.
Continuous Filament Polyester thread is often bonded to improve its ply security and reduce abrasion during sewing operations. Bonded threads are usually treated with a soluble resin that is cured and dried after application to the thread.
Gutermann Tera 60 is a strong, durable polyester thread with ideal sewing properties and excellent breaking strength. It is suitable for a variety of tough sewing jobs on technical garments and accessories, such as ripstop and fleece fabrics. It is also resistant to fading from washing and chlorine.
UV Resistant
UV Resistant
Continuous Filament Polyester thread is a durable sewing thread that can be used on many different fabrics. It is also great for heavy duty sewing applications such as seatbelts, awnings, and boat covers.
It is a lubricated polyester that stretches and recovers well, provides good seam strength and has excellent chemical and mildew resistance. It also has a soft finish that is easy to sew with a minimum of friction and can handle the effects of needle heat and abrasion.
This thread has a new proprietary process for advanced protection against degradation and fading and improved strength retention. It also has a non-wicking finish that reduces moisture migration through seams.
Textured
Polyester filament threads are a variety of strands that are stretched, textured and heat set to ensure proper bulk retention. These threads are commonly used for overedge, chainstitch and coverstitch operations on knit garments. They have a smooth, lint free appearance and are less expensive than most other thread types.
They are also ideal for serging operations on woven apparel to prevent the edge of the fabric from unraveling. They have high bulk for excellent seam coverage and good seam elasticity.
These threads are also used in quilting operations on quilts and bedspreads. They are translucent and blend well with many colors.
The texture of the thread reflects its strength and its resistance to surface abrasion during normal wear or laundering. The texture can range from soft or fuzzy to very stiff and hard.
